La Rioja is located towards the north of Spain, not far from the Basque country. The region of La Rioja is known for its wines and vineyards. Some of the best wines in Spain come from this land, where the climate is temperate all year round.

Spain's finest wines - red, whites and "rosados" (blush wines) are made in La Rioja.

In the valley of the Ebro, cereals and flowers flourish alongside the province’s celebrated grapes.

Logroño is La Rioja's main city. along with Haro, Arnedo, and Santo Domingo de la Calzada, food processing is an important economic activity. Logroño was founded in pre-Roman times and the city was annexed to the former kingdom of Castilla in 1173. The city is divided in two distinct parts, the ancient and the modern section. Historic sites include a 12th-century bridge and several churches dating from the early Middle Ages.

Today Logroño is the trading and industrial center for a rich agricultural region noted for wine. Industries include food processing and the manufacture of textiles, furniture, chemicals, and perfumes.

The overall population of La Rioja is close to 300,000.
